Last Minute Brief PO'ed Oscar Picks
I'm not happy. Here are some predictions of the selection of movies the Oscars have graced as worthy nominations. They suck.
Should: Traffic or Crouching Tiger
Gladiator was good but the other two movies were far superior. The Oscars like the epics. Why is "Chocolat" in this category?
Will Win: Steven Soderbergh, "Traffic"
Should Win: Steven Soderbergh, "Traffic" or Ang Lee, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"
Both had amazing direction. It depends if Soderburgh's vote is split between "Traffic" and "Erin Brockovich" and whether the Oscars want to reward "Crouching Tiger" through giving it Best Director because all it will take is Best Foreign Film which would be a slight disappointment. Why is "Chocolat" in this category?
Will Win: Russell Crowe, "Gladiator"
Should Win: Ed Harris, "Pollock"
Yeah, Crowe's pretty solid. Hanks isn't getting it. No one even saw "Quills" or "Before Night Falls". If Benecio Del Toro from "Traffic" was nominated here, he'd probably win. He'd win anywhere. No one saw "Pollock" either but the performance was brilliant and heartbreaking.
Will: Julia Roberts, "Erin Brockovich"
Should: Ellen Burstyn, "Requiem for a Dream"
Julia will almost definitely win, I'm not sure why. She's a good actress but she's never put in that great role. "Requiem For A Dream" was brilliant, should have gotten a Best Picture and Best Director nod. See that movie. F#$% "Erin Brockovich".
Best Supporting Actor
Will and Should Win: Benicio Del Toro, "Traffic"
Easy, simple, worthy, no long shots. Willem was excellent in "Shadow of The Vampire" though.
Best Supporting Actress
Will and Should Win: Kate Hudson, "Almost Famous"
"Almost Famous" will get its award here. Kate Hudson was excellent.
Best Original Screenplay
WIll Win: "Almost Famous"
Should Win: "Almost Famous" or "You Can Count On Me"
All good screenplays. These two are the best, one would win.
Will and Should Win: Traffic
"Traffic", well deserving.
In Summation, simple stupid Oscars. I'm sad just thinking about it. Why is "Chocolat" anywhere, same for "Erin Brockovich". So "Gladiator" will win. The good movies will be largely ignored (Traffic, Crouching, Requiem) and the studios will go home. This whole thing is bull. Where's Bjork? Where's "Dancer in the Dark"? Damn, I'm pissed. Done.
Skip the Oscars and see some GOOD movies this weekend in Protest. A small list:
Requiem for A Dream
The Tao of Steve
Chuck and Buck
