4 wide releases this weekend:
A Midsummer Night's Dream- MDSUM- I think it will get around 1200 screens. Major
stars like Michelle Pfeiffer, Kevin Kline and smaller stars Calista Flockhart, Stanley
Tucci, Rupert Everett, and Lost & Found's Sophie Marceau are all in this one.
Shakespeare is big (Think Oscars!). The movie is getting decent reviews. The preview is
also exceptional. I look for around 5 mill here, possibly more.
Tea with Mussolini- TEAMU- Limited release starring Cher. Intriguing name. Famous
director Franco Zefferelli directs. Definetly not Star Wars. Look for less than a
million here.
Black Mask- BMASK- Jet Li is going to be big. this is a stateside release of one of his old movies because of his popularity in Leathal Weapon 4. The movie was released in Asia in 1996. He is just so fast, I'll be there this weekend but I don't know how many others will. If it was up to me this would be a huge hit. If it gets the screens it could do Jackie Chan type business. Not Rumble in the Bronx( around 10 mil opening), more like a First Strike opening (around 5 mil) I'm gonna to say around 5 mil here.
Trippin'-TRIPN- Dumb looking African American comedy probably rushed into release because of the big opening per screen (around 7000) for Foolish.Made about 300K wednesday night probably will make around 1.5 mill this weekend.
Side Notes: Yes I did get my Star Wars tickets and tommorow I'll be seeing A Midsummer Night's Dream
